The Great Barrier Reef - Day 4

We weren't completely satisfied with our crocodile searching experience, so today we went to Hartley's Extreme Crocodile Adventure to find some more!  Hartley's is sort of like a zoo/wildlife park mainly focused on saltwater crocodiles. (almost like the zoo that the Crocodile Hunter started)  They have received several of their crocs after they are caught in the wild because they have either attacked or endangered lives - especially if they've decided to make their "home" around places such as boat launching harbors or rivers where there are a lot of people around.  Hartley's also has a separate crocodile farm where they breed and raise baby crocs for their skin & meat.  It's quite an industry, and we learned that although it sounds cruel, it has actually prevented the hunting/poaching of crocs in the wild and brought them back from the verge of extinction since it eliminated the black market for their skin.  Our favorite part of Hartley's was going on a boat ride around their lagoon and watching them feed a crocodile with chicken hanging off of a pole - it was awesome!!

Not many people know that Hartley's is named after Simon Hartley who was in fact Steve Irwin's former partner. These crocs are the real deal and not some shoddy fly-by-night croc farm you hear about.
